FAQ
Sharpening & Repair
How Does it Work?
You first need to decide which knife sharpening package best suits you. We offer 3,4,5,7,10, and 14 knife packages along with four different frequencies to choose from one-time purchase, 3-months, 6-months, and 12-months. We will then send you our dedicated knife shipping box which includes our knife safety sleeves, secure adhesive tape, mailing bag, and return shipping label through SF Express.
Insert your blunt knives into the safety sleeve and place the provided sticker between the blade and the sleeve. Stack the knives together and wrap them together using the provided bubble wrap. Place “P” label stickers to secure. Place the box into the mailing bag and seal. Lastly, scan the shipping label, enter shipping information located at the bottom of the provided “Instructions” in the box. Arrange pickup with SF Express at your convenience.
Once received, our knife smith will examine your knives’ condition and determine the ultimate way to sharpen your knives. Our aim is to have them sharpened within one day and then ship them back the following day.
The last step is for you to enjoy your newly sharpened knives.

Are cheap knives worth sharpening?
Yes they are! Cheap knives are often made with quality steel. However, the blades are mass produced and machine that sharpens the knife blade does not always make it the sharpest.
How often should I sharpen my knives?
It depends on how the knife is used, frequency, and the type of steel of the knife. The best way to test is if you can’t cut through a tomato easily. On average a kitchen knife with normal usage should be sharpened at least twice a year. Many customers choose to sharpen 3-4 times a year.
We offer a subscription service so that we will send you the knife sharpening box at specified intervals. We want you to have a peace of mind!
Do you sharpen ceramic knives?
Yes we do! It’s more difficult to sharpen ceramic knives, but we do it at no extra cost!
Do you sharpen scissors?
Yes we do! We sharpen scissors at no extra cost! However, we do not sharpen pinking shears (scissors with teeth).
Can my knife handle be repaired?
Unfortunately not. We specialize in sharpening and blade repairs only.
Can you fix a knife with a broken tip?
Yes of course! We can create a new tip by shortening the length of the blade. We will contact you before we begin with this procedure.
What if my blade is bent, can you straighten it?
Not a problem! If the tip of the blade is very bent, then we may need to shorten and cut a new tip. The blade may not be 100% straight again, but it will still be very usable. There may be slight hammer marks on the blade if was extremely bent. If needed, we may notify you prior to the repair.
What happens to the bolster of my knife?
It is best to reduce the bolster to be in line with the blade of your knife. This ensures the entire length of the blade can be in contact with what you are cutting. A smaller bolster will also make it easier for you to hone your knife at home before your next professional sharpening. If for some reason you do not wish to reduce the size of the bolster, please let us know when you order.
Are all knives sharpened the same way?
No! There are no two knives that are identical. Our knife smiths will inspect the blade and determine the suitable sharping angle. Bevel angle usually range from 10-30 degrees. Most kitchen knives are 17-22 degrees. Different type of knives use different sharpening machines. Our knife smith will help you determine what is the best way to sharpen your knife.
Can you fix dents and chips on my blade?
Yes we can! Also at no extra cost.
Is it good to send my Japanese knives to you for sharpening?
The answer is yes! Japanese knives require the whetstone method to sharpen. We have a whetstone diamond wheel exclusively for this job. Please do not sharpen your Japanese knives with a honing steel! Bring it to us!
Do you sharpen serrated (steak & bread) knives?
Yes, we can. However, we only sharpen single serrated knives. Also, if your serrated knife has little to no serration left, we are unable to re-serrate them again.

What if my knife does not fit the provided box or sleeve?
If the blade is longer than the safety sleeve, you can use scrap paper or tissue to wrap around the heel of the knife (the part of the blade closest to the handle) and secure it with adhesive tape. Please make sure the tip of the blade is secured at the closed end of the sleeve.
If the blade is wider than the safety sleeve, cut open the upper edge of the safety sleeve and insert the knife with the sharp edge facing the uncut side of the sleeve. Secure the sleeve and the blade with adhesive tape.
If the box does not fit your knife, sadly we cannot sharpen swords or knife longer than 470mm. Although the vast majority of knives are well within this size.
